Mauchline is a village in Ayrshire which in the mid 19th century, specialised in producing sycamore boxes with transfer printed scenes of various sights of interest around the country. This example is unusual in that it still has its original blue lining and stringing (loose in one area). The cover has three transfer printed scenes of Worthing. Its shape suggests a glove box, although the quilted lining might suggest a jewellery box or similar.
