Queen Victoria / Napoleon III Commemorative Treen Pot

A 19th Century ornamentally turned Ebony pill pot. The top depicts the bust of “Our Gracious Majesty...” carved in relief, and unscrews. The base depicts Napoleon Iii, the relief carving directly taken from the image on a bronze medal presented to the state of Kansas in 1867. The name of the sculptor can be seen (...well part of...) at the base of his neck.....H(ubert) Ponscarme. Quite why the original medal was awarded at the Paris International Exposition to Kansas is unsure, but it may have something to do with France’s support of their abolitionist movement. Some wear and a slight crack as per photos. A very unusual item. Advertised price includes packing and postage within mainland U.K. Money back guarantee if you are not satisfied. Monies will be refunded on safe return of the item to us in the same condition as purchased, and within 14 days. You will only have to pay the initial cost of delivery (deducted from any refund) and the cost of returning it to us. Overseas / Usa enquiries welcome, please contact us direct for competitive shipping quotes.
