This is a magnificent walnut double domed bureau dating from about 1725. The double dome and domed sides are a wonderful feature with detailed cross-grained mouldings, as are all the mouldings throughout. All the veneers are of choice cut burr Walnut with herringbone stringing. The doors are raised and fielded, veneered in quarter-matched burr panels. Opening to reveal a superbly fitted interior with multiple drawers and pigeon holes. Central cupboard with arched concave doors. Below are two candle slides above a fall of matched quartered, herringbone and cross-banded veneer. Inside there are drawers, pilasters and a central cupboard with carved scalloped detail as seen in the domes. An inset well sliding back to expose more storage space. Two short and two long drawers oak lined with blue sugar paper lining to the bottoms, original locks (all work) as do all the locks in this piece although the keys are new. Raised on veneered bracket feet. The handles are replacements. This piece has been through a workshop but it certainly hasn’t been over-restored. All the backboards are original. It is in superb condition with a wonderful colour rich and faded just as it should be and a viewing is strongly recommended to appreciate its true beauty.
